Kate are you making cake out of compost?-I am not sure that is a good ideaimage

  • Inka, your buns sound scrummy. Hope your taster approves. The deer should leave your bulbs alone. Daffodils are one of the few things that the rabbits I'm plagued with don't eat.

Are you going to the art classes again this year?

Going back to sheep dog trials, watch the video on You Tube about the rabbit herding sheep. So fuuny to see the sheep being chased by a tiny rabbit. Perhaps someone could post it on here as i haven't figured out how to do it yet.

  • Looking forward to Downton tonight. Been busy in the garden grass cutting and weeding the gravel drive so hope I stay awake. I think you get it later than us,Inka, so we won't tell you what happens.

Hope your chickens have called a truce,Geoff. I've still got two separate gangs and the newer ones are the offspring of the older ones that I hatched in an incubator.

I think this is the rabbit herding one.

  • Thanks, figrat. That's the one, so funny.

Evening ladies and gents, busy day at the allotment for me today. Dug over two beds and added compost and chicken pellets, then planted some green manure to over winter. Hopefully that's better than leaving the beds empty and open to the elements. The Christmas spuds have not fared well so tidied up and removed what we could (flipping blight). I was given a large bag of strawberry runners to plant up though, which the OH is currently busying himself with in the garden.

Love the rabbit video Pam and Figrat. image

I'm wondering what to watch tonight, stick with Dragon's Den or start watching Downton Abbey? I haven't seen DA before. image

What green manure did you use? I've got a couple of patches that are bare at the moment, it's one of the jobs I want to do tomorrow. Have rye grass, field beans and clover seeds.

Figrat - I'm experimenting with two different mixes. One patch has Marshall's buckwheat on it, and the other T&M general green manure mix (Rye, Vetch, Italian Rye Grass and Forage Pea).

I've used the buckwheat before with mixed results, but I didn't want to leave two beds empty over winter/early spring (and I didn't much fancy just covering them up).

I didn't see any of the televised broadcasts, but I saw, quite late, a lot of rave reviews, and the program was up for numerous awards. So I bought the DVD of the first series. I thought it was brilliant. But what anyone thinks of it is a matter of personal taste.

I suspect watching DA on TV weekly is not quite as good, as it's going to be continually interupted by adverts, taking as much time as the program itself.

I'm also a big fan of Dragons Den. But you can easily dip in and out of Dragons Den. DA is a tale that you need to watch continuously to keep up with the plot.

I'm somewhat suspect of serialisations and suspect that DA series 3 will not have the originality or flair of the previous series, but I'll still watch, to see what it's like. I might get hooked; I might not. If it's not grabbing my attention I can easily switch over and watch the Dragons.
