Talking of domestic appliances (as the weather seems to have put the kybosh on any enjoyable gardening) I am now the proud owner of an inherited Kenwood Chef. Just can't believe how nice it is to have a slave to knead my bread for me! Off to the family in Cornwall this weekend (to celebrate nephew finishing A levels etc) and under instructions to Make a Cake. No problem...

Not like a friend of mine trying to get to IOW - 7 hours to travel 10 miles.

I have been in the garden and nearly got swept away, I did see a women clinging on to a tent go flying by, shouting something about scouts and guides.

Geoff how is the kitchen getting on with that money making scheme?

Figrat what sort of cake? will you be scoffing pasties?

Are we all supporting Greece tonight?

imageimageimageReminds me of the flying nun

Watched the local news again- a severe case of over reporting a muddy field with real dramatic headlines image-it is not soup they need, but a good bath.

I have sent some money to the bail out fund-will that do for Greece?

Figrat will not make us a  chocolate cakeimage

Have told family need to start eating out of freezer- otherwise it'll never get defrosted at this rate. Have a Herman chocolate cake in there & several boxes of Herman mixture, but OH pulled a face & said not bothered with the mixtures- may just keep 1, just in case...... dont know whether to swear or cheer!

My Kenwood Chefette was my 21st birthday present from my parents. It has had a new motor, but that was at least 20yrs ago. I still use it for hand mixing some cakes & doing batter for pancakes. Every year I take a deep breath when doing the Christmas cake, but so far so good. keep meaning to get another hand mixer, but still havent as would feel guilty! I suppose if it 'died' during the big cake mixing I could always transfer the mixture into magi...

Ooh, garden wheely bin needs to go out & neighbours'. Off to find waterproofs etc- J.

Undecided. Hot contenders are butterscotch layer cake (Nigella) and lemon/apricot/ ground almond (Nigel Slater). As previously confessed, don't like chocolate...
