WEnt to a local builders merchant, explained I wanted the cheapest of the cheap but had to be water resisitant. he came up with 22p each + VAT. - engineering bricks.  Ordered 100 and got them for 20p. Not brilliant to look at but more for a base than a wall GG A shallow edge to back fill with gravel for my seat - discovered area needs to be raised a little as became waterlogged.

These would do for that job Becks

GG will get a mortar mix just a case of sticking them together can't guarantee the looks - ha ha

Becks in old house I edged the borders with those brick paviors that they lay on drives, I think they work out at about 32peach - check Wickes web site, for an idea, then check your usual places. No Wickes near here otherwise that's where I'd have gone

Sorry posted then realised hadn't said - top soil £44 - really cheap and looks Ok as well, usually about double

This is all sounding rather exciting Becks and Bjay. I need something bricky to repair the edges of my pond. If those paviors are not too thick, they might be just the thing! And we have a Wickes not too far away.

Was very sad to have to let Pete the Paving man dump most of the topsoil he dug out, I would loved it to have gone to someone who wanted it image

  • That's a great price Rosa/Bjay! I just needed 20 bricks today and paid 40p each for those engineering bricks from B&Q - and I thought that was an OK price!image

You lot do know if you shop in local builders yards it is often cheaper and you can chat up the blokey (well maybeimage) as well. Becks I'll message you where to go in your part of the country , and give you directions image

Oh and say you want cheap, that's what i did and said what they were for.

I used the paviors from Wickes to edge a small flower bed last year and they seem much stronger than bricks and less likely to suffer frost damage (that's what happened with the old  bricks that were already there).  Think they were about 38p each.

There's one just round the corner from me Bjay, next street up. But if you know of any other local ones, great. image
