Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'

I bought a Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' last year from a National Trust garden centre, planted it in the garden and it looked very nice during the summer and autumn.  The leaves fell off over winter and I've been waiting for it to get going.  It now has a few GREEN curled up 'leaves' at the end of 2 of the 3 branches.  I can't see anything on the web that suggests this might happen.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why?

    photo? if it's in deep shade it might not colour up so well.

    Thank you, Hostafan.  It is in a sunny position and I'll try and take a photo today - if it isn't raining!
