They certainly look like papaver somniferum and about the right size for an April sowing, but then the only salad leaves I know are the ones that come from a supermarket in a bag.
What put me off about poppies is I thought the smooth leaved sort were greyer and the green leafed sort are quite hairy with little bristles on the stem. I thought the ones Don sent look green and non hairy. But as I said, I don't really know.
