When would be the best time to lift and move cowslips and do they generally flower more than once in the year

They only flower once a year and should have finished flowering by now.
I would lift and replant them now; just keep the soil around them moist (not soggy) If they are in large clumps you could also split the clumps and they will bulk up again over the next year.

I know that no one agrees with me but i always chop all the leaves right off, my plants grow very strong and healthy after a good chop. In fact t
o strong, I have just put at least a hundred assorted prims and cowslips in the compost bin.
Against all reason, I agree with Lyn. Many of mine are growing in grass and get mown down after the seeds have fallen. It doesn't seem to do them any harm at all.
I have some that have germinated in a grass path. They get mown almost before they've finished flowering but they come back every year
