Hello,
I have planted my new Rhododendrum between two established Camellias.
Whilst watching the Chelsea Flower show, one of the presenters said the fallen leaves could poison the ground and affect the plants next to it.I don't expect the leaves to fall off ayway but if they did need I be concerned?
Maybe I should plant in a pot to be on the safe side.

I have just read an article on Rhododendrons, the experts say that the reason nothing will grow under them is that they form a dense dark shady area, also very dry.The leaves are very tough and dont break down so just lay on the soil.
You wouldnt want to plant anything near it I wouldnt think, as it will grow big in its own right.
They are very toxic to pets and children, but I am sure you wont be eating your flowers!
We have plenty of camellias and rhodi's growing in a hedge - it should be fine! Though good point about clashing colours - in the end I had to cut some rhodi's down it was so clasHing. The good news - more camellias hiding behind, so now I have a camellia hedge along that bit!
