Plum leaf full of holes
Dear all
I have a victoria plum which did not fruit last year and this year although half the tree has fruit the leaves look like lace as they have so many holes in them. The tree is next to a Bramley apple and I am worried that it has a disease which could pass to the Bramley. Please can someone help thankyou

I have been keeping an eye on things and now the Laurel near the fruit trees is covered in brown mottle on holes - so if anyone has any idea please I would be very grateful. Having got rid of my chickens at the end of last year I wonder whether not having them scraping around has affected my soil and allowed some sort of grub to grow. PLEASE help
Have a look at the RHS advice for Laurel leaf problems, Glenda:

It sounds like one of the bacterial shot hole diseases. Lots of wet weather is the primary cause allowing these diseases to take hold.
As for your fruit trees, most pests and diseases are specific to each type of fruit and don't normally affect other types of tree. The cold weather in Winter usually kills many overwintering pests but we didn't really have any significant periods of sub-zero temperatures this year so there is more damage evident than usual. Feeding your trees is one of the best things you can do to help them cope and hope for a good freeze next Winter.
