Late-treated lawn?

I have recently taken over a large (for me) neglected lawn, fighting to survive buttercup weed and clover. I would really like to do something for it before it gets beyond help, but is the end of May too late in the season? I would be grateful for any advice any 'lawn' person could give me.

Not too late at all, treat with one of the lawn treatments on the market.
Thank you Dave. Is it possible to get one that treats the lawn growth at the same time as killing the weeds? Perhaps not. (I'm a beginner).
Yes Chazel - many different makes of weed and feed available, and often the 'own brand' types are just as effective. Evergreen is the best known but any Garden Centre or DIY store will stock plenty. Another way of approaching the problem is to just use a feed initially and then a month or 6 weeks later use a combined product, but at this time of year I'd say go for the combined one.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you Fairygirl. I'm off now to look for a combined treatment, as you suggest. As it's raining again there's not much I can do in the garden.
