Rose

All my roses I planted last year have lots of buds, nearly 30 on iceberg and 20+. On st swithun, butt Madame gregoire staechelan, sorry for wrong spelling, only has 2 buds and 2 flowers, I,m growing it up a metal obelisk, southwest aspect, gets partial sun as large tree on street, I,m training it fairly horizontally and winding it round to increase blooms, anyone any ideas how to get more flowers?

..you need to give this rose time... it flowers on wood made the previous year, as you only planted it last year, it probably didn't make enough flowering wood... hence only a couple of roses... it only flowers at early summer... late May/June... you are doing the right thing by training it the way you are....  don't worry about the shade... this rose will happily grow on a north wall..... be patient.. I guarantee you will have a wonderful show next year....

Thanks salino, that,s great, it,s just as I planted a few roses same time and others have many more buds...except poor generous gardener who I had to move 6 weeks ago and went into root shock, though is recovering nicely with lots of nice new leaves

..they're quite forgiving...in time..... incidentally...Mme Gregoire is supposed to have a scent reminiscent of sweet peas..... see what you think...I've never grown it myself...I don't think...grown so many over the years but this one escaped me for some reason...
