Sorry C.J. that was a mistake from me, I did mean to say every other day, not twice a day image I still think every other day at this time of year is far far too much water.

Our local golf course only waters the grass in the height of summer, and even then it might be once or twice a week when we have the odd heatwave, other than that it's left to nature to keep it watered.

Hello, I'm back one month later with progress photos, and a couple of questions image

So I aerated the lawn, composted and seeded the patches and watered once a week. No more chemicals have been used.

This week I started watering daily, and cut it last night, photos from tonight below.

I've got a couple of questions:

    1. I've been cutting higher than usual (2.5"), which looks greener, but does this have any negative impact? As when I cut shorter, it looks yellow and unhealthy.
    2. I now now have a dozen or so yellow looking areas (only at the root), are these dead, dry or other?
    3. Is watering once a day (8am) overkill in this weather?

Hi @Buddyboy, I'm not sure if you're commenting on my original post (which has been covered) or my post from yesterday?

I've sorted the patches and stopped feeding. It's just the photos from yesterday I'm questioning now.

CJ - I think there's some very good advice there from Bboy and Verdun. It's easy to get a bit over analytical about lawns. I'd agree with what they both say - too much food and water really. The bit you're worried about - at the edges of the patio- will possibly get more wear and tear which will make it more likely to be worn, and it may just be more compacted which doesn't help drainage and that's a big factor for healthy grass. I never water grass unless it's a newly seeded area and, although we have high rainfall here normally, in all the dry weather recently and last summer, my grass was green and healthy as it had been fed earlier in the year and regularly cut.  I simply avoid walking on it too much if there's been a lot of rain, especially in spring,  as it doesn't help with the structure of the ground.

I reckon most people would be delighted to have as green a 'sward' as you have there! image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I would invest in a good spreader those cheap ones aren't very good as they do tend to drop too much feed in some places. I find the Scott's spreaders very good. About ??40

As it's been bumped, I'll update with the latest photos I have:

It's looking incredible at the moment. Plenty of water, cut twice a week at 2", and fed once since my last update.
