ROSES

BAZOINBAZOIN Posts: 2

I have a smallish beetle eating my roses.  About half inch long and haven't seen it fly. tends to drop to the ground when threatened.  I can get 4 in a rose bud sometimes so tend to cut them with my special scissors as trying to get them all into soapy water is difficult as shaking the rose etc doesn't dislodge them especially in a not fully opened bud. Would love to know the name of this pest and then I think I will have to resort to chemicals or perhaps the correct nematodes for them.  Advice urgently required as I one sad gardener.

We need to identify the type of beetle - can you tell us more about it and perhaps take a picture.  To post a picture on here you click on the green tree icon on the toolbar above where you type your post, and follow the instructions.

  • I too have a beetle in the centre of my roses this year, they are a little smaller than my little fingernail and dark brown, they are making the centre of the rose brown  and then  the petals come away. Any suggestions.

  • Many thanks for your respnse, It's not vine weevil I know what that looks like, the colour of this beetle is almost black a bit like a rain beetle.
