Does this need pruning?

I recently purchased this patio plum tree 'Glory' from homebase. Does it need to be pruned or should I leave it to do its thing for now? As you can tell im pretty new to all this!

I'll leave someone else to advise if pruning is necessary - but if it is, don't do it til midsummer - plums are susceptible to silverleaf if pruned at this time of year.

You need to prune off all of those shoots at the base of the trunk, Andrew.  They may be coming from the rootstock onto which the tree is grafted and if you let them grow they will take over to the detriment of the variety which has been grafted on to it.  As chicky says, leave it for a month though before pruning them off to avoid a possible Silver Leaf infection.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
