Beech Hedge

When is the correct time to prune a beech hedge and can I trim it, just to tidy it up at any time?

Beech hedges should be clipped in August - doing this means that the new growth will be retained over winter when it has turned that glorious golden brown.

If the hedge is trimmed before August the regrowth will be too mature to be retained over winter and you'll be left with bare branches.

    Hope that's helpful image

Its also a good idea to leave pruning of any hedges til later in the summer - lots of birds are nesting in them atm
