Monkey puzzle turned brown
My monkey puzzle was moved last year and took really well in a wet but sheltered corner, to control weeds I put down thick gardening material then covered in bark. Almost immediately it began turning brown and was all brown by 2wks. I thought drought so punctured holes in the canvass after a week no change so I have removed a section but left the bark. Is it dead? Is it a type of rust? I am in north Aberdeenshire and the winter was not too bad and it came through that ok. It was lovely and green until I put down the canvass and bark about a month ago. Grateful of any advice, thanks jayne

Bumping up

I don't think it will have anything to do with the canvas and bark, any adverse effects wouldn't be that quick.
How wet is wet? I don't grow this tree but I've never seen it growing in a very wet place.
My guess is that it hadn't settled into its new home as well as you'd hoped.
I fear it's dead, once brown most conifers don't recover

I don't understand 'bumping up'
nutcutlet, I am surprised it survived a mild but very wet winter only to turn brown so quickly in the spring, I will dig around it this weekend to see how wet it is, thank you
bumping up is about getting your question back up to the top of the forum so people see it.
Can you post a photo of your tree.

Does it have any signs of new growth at the tips of it's branches? If not I fear it is dead.
The fact that the leaves turned brown after being transplanted does indicate that was the cause.
Possibly if the soil was wet, and then covered with fabric, it may not have had enough oxygen at the roots.

Dovefromabove, thanks, it survived winter all green but alas no, no new green growth. Anyone know where I can buy a new one at a good price?
