Camelia query
in Talkback
Should I remove the branches from a camellia that are hanging onto the ground? Someone told me that I should as leaving them encourages 'nasties' into the bush. I quite like them hanging down, but if the plant would be better if trimmed down there then I will do it. It is 10 years old and about 4ft tall. Many thanks. Mags

I can't imagine that any more 'nasties' would find their way into the branches than could be achieved by flying or climbing up the trunk.
And of course, you could always use one or two of them to layer and grow yourself some more camellias - you could offer one to your 'gardening advisor'

Thanks Dove - from reading these messageboards I think you know more about gardening than my trying-to-be-helpful neighbour! So I will leave it as it is. Mags
