passion flower foliage
in Talkback
I'm really struggling with my passion flower. Every year it flowers but has almost no foliage on it. It looks twig thin and very bare. It will grow a couple of leaves and flowers but won't fill out. It's grown really tall now so it's still alive. Does anyone have any tips to grow foliage?

mine looks the same at the moment but when the weather warms up it starts to put on its leafs .It may be in need of feed and water.
You didn't say what species it was or where it was grown, perhaps this explains the lack of replies......
Don't know much about passionflowers, but perhaps there is too much upward growth at the expense of side shoots? As with some other plants could you nip out the leader shoot to promote more side shots and foliage or train it at an angle like roses?
Watering every night sounds a bit too often to me. They do well in dry, very sunny places, in my experience. Where are you growing it and what sort of soil do you have?
My passion flower loses a lot of leaves over the winter during gales and the like. By now it has re-greened itself and is covered in leaves and flowers. We don't feed or water it, and it grows right in front of the house wall facing south. (If that helps) I don't think mine is bothered about water.
Mine is on a south facing fence too and gets no watering. And it just grows and grows and grows and is covered in flowers. Maybe you could try ignoring yours for a few weeks and see how it responds.
