Does anybody no what the best tree or scrub for a shady area is and has some colour!!!!!!!

There is quiet a big space, as we have just built new area, soil is very good, and the sun is there a little bit, but not a lot!!!!!
Crab apples, Rowans and Amelanchier lamarkii would all be fine. Shrubs like Viburnum will also do well - mariessii is particularly attractive, and Hydrangeas will also be a good choice.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
