I think that it is important to remember when particular plants flower in your area, as the Chelsea chop will delay this by a few weeks. Here in my slightly shady Sheffield garden, a lot of plants would not flower at all, if chopped.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
It's the variegated Salix I've trimmed and it's looking much nicer. Every time I walk past it I nip out a couple of growing tips. Ideally I'd like to shape it into a ball/lollipop !!
Definitely no Chelsea chop here this year. I usually do it on the sedums but hardly any growth this year. totally agree with punk we are at least three weeks behind.

Very informative thread - nervous Chelsea Chopper here.
I think I will experiment with my salvia carradonna, maybe just do 1 1/2 of them and see what happens. Need full flower for last week of July.
Was wondering about alstromeria as well - again need to be able to cut end of July
Erics Mum I have one of those salix trees - variegated on a long thin trunk, think I will follow your plan in the hope it becomes more bushy
