Ear fungus
I discovered this growing on a large hebe bush where I'd cut off a branch last year. I've found out what it's called but wondered if it is likely to spread to other plants. I'm assuming it only grows on rotting wood but want to be on the safe side. Amazingly like an ear!

I'm fairly certain it only grows on dead wood, and this link seems to bear that out
