Onions bolted!

Morning all

So after growing a mutant walking stick sprout my over wintered onions which were looking rather splendid have bolted! Tricky business this veg malarky.

Am I right in thinking they won't grow much now and won't store well? Am thinking dig em up and make some chutney?

Thanks

You are right Georgie, they won't store as well if they have bolted. Cut flower stalk off and lift them and use them. They will store for a short time so you won't have to make chutney with them all. Sometimes they bolt if planted a bit early and soil is cold.

  • Thanks KEF, I'll try again next year and delay planting, you live and learn.

Now is a good time to sow salad ( spring) onions if you like them. image

I had an email this week, last chance to order plants of kelsae onions.

From  d.t. Brown. Have a look at their website. You may just have time to get a crop in for this year.

Onions also bolt if the soil gets too dry. image
