Garlic- rookie error!
in Fruit & veg
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me...
I planted my garlic back in January, as I had thought this was when to do it. I have since realised that the type I have are Autumn planting ones; Lautrec Wight. The stems have started to yellow and fall over, and I have read this is around the time to pull them up (?). I dug one up and had a quick look, and it looks like nothing more than a pink spring onion! Should I leave them for a while longer and see? Or just cut my losses and pull them all up? Space is limited in my garden, so am tempted to do the latter, unless the garlic will mature eventually?
thanks
Lyndsay

Is there any fresh green growth on them at all or is it all falling down? All my alliums - garlic, onions and ornamentals have brown tips for some reason this year, but it is not stopping them from bulbing or flowering. I planted in October, but don't think I am due to harvest till June/July if I remember rightly.
They were originally green, but just the tips are yellow And have done this over the last few weeks. I don't think there's any new growth on them. They've not flowered at all though!
I have three types and the leaves have a slight yellowing so maybe next month for me.
Lyndsay, a little bit of yellowing at the tips is completely natural, don't worry about it.
Hi Lyndsey just having another thought autumn growing garlic love a period of cold weather as this winter up here in the north east has been mild and not to much rain as u do not say which part of the country you are from just wondering if you have had to much moisture without adding some sort of structure in the ground for the roots to go down and drainage just a thought
It is a bit early for them to be going yellow, naturally. One year mine collapsed with fungus disease. It's not that is it?
The tips on a few of mine have yellowed- I was told to give them a sprinkling of Epsom salts. A little bit of yellow seems quite normal and is not an indication that they'll be ready soon.
