Laying turf on hardcore

I've got a small garden around 10m squared that was all gravel. I've dug all the gravel away to find hard core and sand, there's good drainage through out the hard core with 3 inch drainage pipes . to sit level with excisting patio I could get around 100 mm of top soil / sand then turf on top of that. I know very little about turf/ gardening and just wondering if the turf would do well , the garden gets good amounts of sun.

If you add the topsoil then you can lay turf, however it may require watering in prolonged dry spells.

Part of my lawn has an old farm track under it and about 7cm of soil. its OK until prolonged dry periods, when the old farm track shows up as a brown area first.

So as log as it's watered well all should be fine

Our lawn is on 2ft of fused iron ore, and grows on a brick's height worth of topsoil.  It needs feeding from time to time, and watering in dry summer weather, but it always comes back, even when the trampoline shade has wrecked a bit.

My lawn is on an old farmyard with a hardcore base, topped with topsoil. Gets dry in summer and more weeds seem to grow on the shallowest bits, but it's still a lawn.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
