I put some young brussell sprout plants in a week ago and they all died. I had two that looked very poor and took them out and was going to start again but on the roots I found maggots. long thin orange. looked like they were eating the roots.
can I get rid of them any way?
the bed is next to my lovely strawberry plants bed.
please help.

Cabbage root flies lay eggs near the plant and they hatch into maggots that eat the roots of brassicas. The larvae are white though and they dont usually kill the plant in a week. Have you got a photo?
If they look like the one in the following link, they are centipedes and are carnivores, so a gardeners friend as they eat lots of 'naughty' insects:

Otherwise, any chance of a photo?
Thank you but it's not the friendly one in the picture. Bear with me, I did take pictures so I will upload shortly. They looked really orange in the dark soil but seem a creamy colour. But not thick like a grub.
Back soon.
Thanks again.
just found one in the polytunnel when I lifted a pot of the soil. If they're bad I want to act quick.
I hope iveOstend a picture.
