Should my fagus sylvatica purpurea have keaves yet!
in Plants
Hi
I bought a fagus sylvatica purpurea in autumn last year and planted it in an area that meets its requirements - sun/ shade and type of soil etc.
All the other trees I have in the garden have produced their leaves (including a tree I bought at the same time) but this fella refuses to!
I has the buds that look like they will sprout but nothing is happening. should I be worried or not?
Any help would be appreciated.

The brown leaves are from last year !
Hi,
I have a large hedge of fagus sylvatica purpurea .... now about 8 years old.
It is now beginning to show fresh new leaves, and I'm in southern Scotland.
You'll probably see some action soon as the new leaves push off the old ones.

I'd agree with Bee - all the beech hedges round here are only just beginning to colour up. (Central Scotland) The buds look fine to me so I wouldn't worry too much.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
