Peas do indeed seem like a lot of work for little reward.  As John Seymour says, you'll never have enough.  But aren't they delicious straight from the plant?

  • Mine were lovely and healthy when I went away Friday evening, got home lunchtime and about a third have been eaten by something. Interesting reading all the comments not sure what has got to mine yet!

i had some old seeds and as i can't bear to throw stuff away i planted them in a large pot around the out side, i have bamboo in the garden so the top bits i cut off the canes are quite dense and twiggy so i place these all around the pot quite thickly so birds etc cant get in and then the bamboo canes in teepee shape for once they are established, it has worked very well this year and they are thriving and healthy, they have loads of flowers on at the mo but definitely think the dense bamboo tops helped protect them from seed to how tall they are now.

Interesting reading all this - just discovered this afternoon that all our peas had been attacked by something having been looking great yesterday:-( Purple sprouting broccoli was bad too...They have been covered by netting, well watered...
