Bark coverage
Hi.
I have an area about 6' square which I would like to cover with bark chippings. Approximately how much bark would be required for an area of this size? Also, would I need to put a plastic lining between the soil and the bark?
Thanks

There are calculators on some of the websites that sell that kind of thing, try doing a search - can't remember which one I used. Putting down a membrane of some kind first does help to keep the weeds down, but as the bark rots down weeds will still seed into it.
OK thanks for that. I'm guessing I can get the bark at Homebase, B&Q etc.?

Verdun, that rather depends on how big the bags are!
Bark up here comes in 70-80 litre bags so 2-3 bags would do the trick.
To follow on from my question, if I was to put some potted plants on that space, what would you suggest for a complete novice, with no gardening ability whatsoever! The space is in the south east corner of a roughly south facing garden. I would like a splash of colour if possible.
the only good thing about bark is that cats stay away
Is that really your experience Liam - it's certainly not mine!
