They may have felt the effects of the long dry summer we had last year.  Daffs like it damp image

I hope someone may be able to solve this puzzle. I have an area in my garden, about 3 x 4 feet, where a tree used to be and which now, every February or March is covered in daffodils. Every year, just after all  the blooms have gone, I discover all the leaves have been flattened to the ground but I have yet to find out  who or what has caused this and why.  Any ideas?

Gilly - I recommend putting a CCTV camera on your Xmas list this year!

It's bound to be wildlife of some sort - Daffs don't (in my experience) simply keel over and flatten themselves so it's either a human trampler (maybe kids playing football?) or some kind of animal.  Very mysterious...!!

It's not human as no one can get into the garden. Must be an animal - and they do it every year!  I wonder if it's foxes as it happens over night. Maybe they like the cool feel of the leaves? Unfortunately the leaves die down very quickly afterwards so are not feeding the bulbs.

Try putting some bamboo canes or other spiky things in between your daffs to prevent whatever it is from rolling around and trampling.
