morrisions and a kwiw

Hi, I love Morrison's plant section... today I couldn't resit picking up a kiwi plant, it cost me £2 and looks really healthy image. I have never grown or thought about growing a kiwi  plant before and wondered how much success/problems you have had with them?... from the bit of reading up I have done they are very vigorous growers

I would try to find out what temperature they need; may be a green house plant?

Great price, I would keep it in a pot for a year or 2 to get it to a decent size before planting out next to a south facing wall.

I also picked up 8 of the pots they use to store the cut flowers in for 99p.... after a few drill holes they will be ideal loads of my veggies image

I don't think I will have room in my greenhouse, not even had it a year and its already full

you will need two, male and female plant if it is not self fertilizing .They are quick growers when they start and lot of water they like but they don't like being pruned although it  is needed as it will take over.Because it is a small plant you will need to water it each day  and watch for pest damage as a small plant it will take time to establish.

you would  need to read the label  it came with as it will not fruit otherwise, and yea it is an attractive plant lovely leaves and little red type flowers ,I like it .image

We had kiwi's once, we bought one not realising we needed a male and a female, so subsequently bought two more (male+female) except one died, so we were left with a mystery sex and a by this time long forgotten sexed kiwi. 10 years later we finally removed them from the garden and i guess our kiwi must have either not liked the other or we ended up with two the same cause I didnt once see a kiwi.

'Would you say it's an attractive plant'   I couldn't comment on that as I've never seen a kiwi plant, but I think it is a very subjective question as everyone's taste is different, just like colour of flowers - we had the blue/yellow flower debate a few weeks ago.

What is most important is whether you like it, if you do then yes it's an attractive plant to you image
