When we dug it up to replant we also discovered it was 2 trees and not 1,, so i think it must have grown wild like you say. I take it if it is wild cherry it won`t produce fruit?
If a wild one, they do produce fruit - the birds love them - but they generally have more stone than flesh and are edible but bitter. You can make wine, jam etc, if the birds don't get them first (which is tricky with all types of cherry!)
