Dwarf fruit trees

Hi. I have just planted five young fruit trees from pot to raised bed and fed and fertilised regularly. The first fruit of either apple or pear are starting to grow When do I remove the first fruit for a better crop. Now or now or when they they mature a bit more. Kind regards Brian

Check how thick the branches are that bear the fruit, as the growing fruit will increase in weight and on a young tree can easily cause the branch to snap especially if it gets windy!

I recently planted an apricot and there are so many fruits on one branch that even at marble size a branch snapped before I got around to thinning them.
  • Many thanks. The branches are very thin and week so will not think it will hold much fruit so will check regularly and discard the fruit before damage accurs. Many thanks for all your info. Brian
