Hellebores in April

Beautiful white hellebores covered in this ...no new shoots this year and most leaves browning, curling and then wilting down to the ground.   After swiping off all the larvae type things I'm wondering if I ought to chop the foliage to ground level and leave or get the plants out of the ground, chop the foliage off and replant in pots or treat with something.  They are beautiful whites and would be sorry if I make a mess of trying to rectify what's going on.

Any tactics anyone?

You need the leaves to help build up the plant for next year.

If you can wipe off all the larvae or egg masses or whatever they are, the leaves will look bad this year, but then cut off in January next year, to get fresh leaves next year. I think if you chop it to the ground now, you will lose the plant altogether.

Agree. If the leaves are looking poor then you need to encourage the plant to make more. Give it a good feed with a high nitrogen content fertiliser. This will encourage new leaves.

Many thanks fidgetbones and Berghill.   Will get feeding and leave the leaves till January.
