Cabbage under cloch

Hi,

I have just re planed some cabbage as first planting got destroyed by pigeons, lesson learnt, they are now under a cloch. How long will they need to stay under this for?

    Hi it's a tunnel arrangement with white material, which is assume will also keep the butterflies out, so I a presume leave it in situ?

    Trouble is the cabbages may grow too tall for the cloche.  They may also get too hot under there.  Butterflies get in everywhere.

    Will see how I get on, it's my first year so trial and error I guess
