planting in pots
hi i did post this in hello forkers silly of me sorry, i was advised by lady at david austin ti plant new rambler rose in a pot til it gets a few feet tall to give it better chance to have more sun in what is a sunny corner until fig tree comes into full leaf, i did choose a variety that copes with partial shade obviously, i just moved 'generous gardener' climbing rose from this spot as it grew ok in a year but didn't flower, i'm hoping a slightly more robust and fast climbingrambler willl do better, i do plan to keep fig leaves weel cut back in the area i want the rose this year, didn't last year. also am going to plant a 8 inch high osmanthus in a fairly shady spot, shouls i keep this in a pot also in more sun til that's taller and will get bit kore light bit higher up?thanks in advance

oops forgot to add could rose replant sickness be a problem?
rosemummy, it could if you are planting in same space. A couple of years ago there was a gardening prog with Vera Lynn (a famous wartime singer) and they put the new rose in a cardboard box with compost FB and B and planted that; the theory being that by the time the cardboard has rotted, the rose is strong enough to not fall victim to rose re-plant disease. There are other solutions I believe; I'm sure the other forumatti will tell you
Thanks art jack , as usual I didn't,t get chance to check forum before I planted, I removed a good bucketful of soil and refilled with compost and manure, also used micro rhizal fungi, will this be enough? I spent over 2 hours yesterday planting my 3 new roses, as it had 3 year old helper, cannot seem to load enough compost on to really bury graft 10cm as suggested, dug as deep as I could, will try to load bit more on today, dreamed about them all not thriving, especially one in spot old rose was, grumpy that I try to do things right but often don,t. Manage to prepare properly!
