My apple tree isn't well
Hi,
There is an apple tree in my garden that I inherited but last year it had quite a poor crop with deformities in the apples that it produced. This year it is hardly even growing any leaves and it has black marks/rings on the branches and I wonder if anyone has any idea what they might be?

I've tried Googling, obviously, but not been able to find anything similar, only references to black marks on leaves but because it is hardly producing any leaves that is something I haven't been able to match.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hi Edd,
Interesting, thank you.
Will do.

To me that whole branch looks rotten. What does the rest of the tree look like?

Damaged bark looks like frost canker, nothing too serious.
Look at the top right corner of the first photo - zoom in on it - that looks like rotten wood to me.
And zoom in on the bottom of the branch in the first pic - where the bark's come off - that looks rotten to me too.

most likely it needs a bit of a prune,
I'd like to see a pic of the whole tree.

Looks a bit like the branches on the half dead cherry tree I inherited here
I'd be inclined to remove the affected areas if it still leaves the rest of the tree looking ok, but, as Dove says, a pic of the whole tree would be useful, as it'll help determine the extent of the damage.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I did notice a very odd green vine.
