Last summer I had to collapse my waterbutts due to some building work, and because I'm on a meter (and also don't like to waste precious water) I diverted the outside pipe from my kitchen sink and washing machine into a tub.
Mostly I used it for the annuals in containers as they were most susceptible to fainting but I did use it on other things including young fruit bushes although admittedly I only 'tested' the fruit.
I didn't use any special detergents for the dishes/washer but I didn't swill bleach or anything of that kind down. Sometimes the water smelt of my rinsed out wine and cider bottles Other times it had bits of cat food in it and soap foam but nothing died.
This was short term solution for me though, I wouldn't want to do it all the time, partly because I'm not sure I'd want to eat the produce and partly because it's a faff. In an emergency, I do it again though, my flowers didn't seem fussed.
Hi Archipem, what do you call council recycling bins?
Our council gives us nothing for free. In fact I had a VERY bad experience with the green waste collection. They emptiedthe plastic bags(there were 4 guys doing it) and one of them proceeded to tear not one but THREE of the plastic bags. My neighbour saw him do it too. When I went out and asked him not to do it, he was very aggresive toward me. They all turned their backs on me and drove off.
To add insult to injury, when I complained the response was even more insulting. My concern was NOT addressed at all and I was reminded that I could "purchase additional bags from the library. We do not replace lost or stolen bags....." So in which catagory does bags torn by the Croydon Council employee come in , I wonder.
I felt quite threatened by their behaviour and I suppose if I had been a young man they would not have treated me in this manner.

We bought some cheap dustbins and collect our bathwater for watering flowers and veg. No probs.
