Looking good, Robmk.
thanks cleo
That looks lovely Robmk, I only have a small container pond but it is amazing how much wild life it will bring into your garden.
that is so pretty too ... I have a pond my son dug out and lined about 12 years ago and the frogs in it are really great slug eaters It has all sorts going on it it at all times of the tear ,it si so interesting just to watch a bee or a wasp having a drink or th little tadpoles at this time of year. I have made a"beach" at one end with pebbles so that creatures can drink safely and the pigeons queue up in the hot weather to take polite turns at a drink or wash.
I made a micro pond from a washing up bowl a few weeks ago. Gravel at the base and a selection of pebbles and rocks as escape roots/hiding places. I added two marginal plants as advised by the garden centre - still in pots with the soil just below the surface of the water. I also added one "string" of pond weed, anchored under a stone. I've now noticed that there is a strange red material covering many of the stones and the pond weed. It's like a wet powder if that makes sense. Almost like a rust! The water remains reasonably clear though. Any ideas what this could be and what's causing it?
I love the "pond" even though it's tiny. Lots of hover flies and spiders have been flitting about around and over it. Nothing bigger as yet but I keep hoping!
I made a micro pond recently from a freezer drawer! My mum calls it the puddle! Went pond dipping and have pond skaters now, some tiny fish but not seen them today. Have gloating plant from GC and thinking about another plant but not really any room.
Thanks Robmk, yes, I washed everything well, including the gravel. I think it's and algae according to someone on a different thread - but good for the mini beasts so I think I'll stop worrying! I like the freezer drawer idea MrsGarden, and adding some pond skaters. I was offered some frog spawn but declined in case their new home would be too small or not healthy enough. Great fun though and I keep peeping into the water every time I walk past just in case something's moved in!
