Window boxes
I'm a bit frustrated! My old wooden window box finally succumbed to the ravages of time and weather, and must be replaced.
The only problem is,none of the garden centres or nurseries within a 20-odd mile radius stock any proper window boxes. I have che ked on line, and there are various options available, but to be honest, I'd rather see the item in the flesh before buying!
The current issue of GW tells you what plants to fill your window box with, but nobody seems that interested in selling you one - I can go to a GC and buy any sort of container you could imagine - but not a window box!
I will probably end up making one, but has anyone out there any suggestions or recommendations regarding garden centres or Internet where I might get hold of something really nice?

I'd agree with you Pentillie - the traditional wooden box seems to have fallen out of favour. It's all terracotta or lead or plastic now. I haven't seen one in recent memory anywhere. I reckon you'd be better off getting some timber and making one. I did one for my girls' playhouse 15 years ago but I just made a false timber 'front' and sat a plastic one on brackets inside it for the plants so that we could take it out and they could do the plants themselves more easily.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
When I lived in London, had a nice big kitchen windowsill and put a plastic trough there, with wire holding it in place attached to eyelets rawlplugged into the brickwork at the side. If I was doing it now, I would make a treated timber surround to hide the plastic
Otherwise, find some nice local person who makes odds and ends for a hobby and ask them to make you one.
could make your own from old decking if your lucky in a skip for free!
