Moving trees

Is it ok to dig up a small apple tree and replant elsewhere in the garden. Its only about 4ft tall and very skinny

I'd say that would be fine Lulu, though with any transplant time is of the essence so replanted quickly in its new location with plenty of water. Some of the more experienced gardeners here might have something to add though image

  • Thanks Fishy, I'll give it a goimage

When you replant it, take small length of hose pipe, cut lot of holes in half of it and curl that half around part of the root ball, with the other end just appearing above the surface of the soil; makes the plant that much easier to water, with no wasted water.

I would also use some fish, blood and bonemeal in the planting hole.image

artjak, is f, b and b good for all trees?  I am about to plant a weeping willow, a magnolia, a flowering cherry, a silver birch, a cooking apple, two pears  and an amelanchier.  Usually put some chicken pellets in the hole, but forced myself to buy and tolerate f, b and b this year, so have some on hand.  And some old hosepipe by a happy coincidence!!
