I have two separate clumps, one violet the other white.I've taken a chunk from both and transplanted them close together.I've even got some baby ones coming up in my pots,I can't get enough of them!!
a weed is only a plant in the wrong place! I have them all over the place too, including pink ones - no scent though - and just lift them after they've flowered, leaving only those that are in sensible places - Meerkat is right, they make excellent groundcover until you're ready to put something else in, and they seem to grow in places where other things might not want to be (damp, shady)
absolutely, Edd. Life has told me that the plants in my garden grow where they want to be, and not neccesarily where I think they might look best. As you will appreciate, mine is not a highly manicured garden!
Thought I'd dig up this thread as I've started to notice my violets again as lots of other vegetation is dying down. I rescued some from my boggy pond area and planted them around the base of the young Ash tree. Also some from containers where they self seeded. I'd like to create a nice mat of them. I think they're gorgeous little flowers and a real pick-me-up when its November

Perhaps I'm being too fussy.
The slugs don't eat mine at all! probably the only thing they don't eat though.

Can anyone put up a picture of these violets? I can't as I don't have a camera.
I wrote a guide for a local group, see if that helps:
