It's my birthday at the end of this month and I am asking my mother in law to get me a plant for my garden for my present. My garden is south facing but the bed it would go in is half shady, soil is quite heavy and clay-ish. I have A newish fence that am trying to disguise and already have honeysuckle and clematis, plus a small apple tree, lilac and climbing hydrangea in that area. Any ideas?

Passion flower, mine seems to like my clay soil. It stayed green all winter this year as an added bonus.
I have a Golden Hop that likes to be in shade during the hot part of the day and grows so fast it could do well on your fence.
