So what plant / weed is this?

It's great ground cover but it's taking over and we have too many lovely plants to let it do that! Any ideas please?

Do you think that might be it?

Butterbur is Petasites hybridus and winter heliotrope is P. fragrans.

I don't think I know either well enough to tell them apaprt

  • Thanks for the replies - judging by the photos in wildflowerfinder, I'm not certain that it's that. I'll get another close-up photo tomorrow. Can't remember any flowers last year.

  • Ceres, nutcutlet, big thank you! Spent a bit of time with wildflowerfinder and I think you're right, Ceres, the leaves are nearly identical to those of Winter Heliotrope - the small, saw-toothed edges with a deep red tinge. I shall have to wait and see what happens re. flowers! Thanks again.

Winter heliotrope flowers in January so you've missed them for this year. It is very invasive.

  • Landgirl100, that explains it, doesn't it! I did say in my profile that I'm not really a gardener - all I need to do now is improve my powers of observation! (Mind you, the 'Winter' bit of the name's a bit of a giveaway, isn't it?) image
