Tree Peony Seedlings
I have a large yellow flowered tree peony, my parents have it's off-spring via cutting both are doing really well (and that says something as I am a novice gardener and this area has a reputation for killing plants).
I've just found quite a few seedlings under it. Didn't think much of it until t'internet said you get different varieties from the seed. Is this possible? I don't have another tree peony and as far as I know neither do my neighbours but I do have quite a selection of "normal" peonies (they just love the clay albeit not the dogs).
My question is: is it worth potting my seedlings to see what they grow into or will they just be the same as the adult?

They should be the same as the adult if it's a species paeony but could be different if the parent is a hybrid or cultivar or if it's cross pollinated with another one.
I get a lot of yellows and blotchy oranges from my red P. delavayi.
For me it would be a potting up job but it's a bit of a wait to see what you've got.
I believe tree paeonies and herbaceous ones can be crossed but the very double ones with all petals and no reproductive bits won't

I would pot them up and lavish them with love and care; even if they're just the same as the parent they'll be worth having or giving to your friends - I'm sure some of us would queue up for one
Nutcutlet will know more about tree peonies - hopefully she'll see this post .....

I looked at some tree peony's at Wesley on Saturday morning. £60.00 each. Looked lovely but will just have to admire them from afar.

At £60 each maybe you should be growing them on for sale. It would take a year or some though
