Begonia tubers not growing

I potted up some begonia tubers in compost and lightly covered them in soil in the middle of April. Then I put them in my greenhouse and when there was no sign of any growth, moved them into the house. I have been waiting patiently for them to sprout, but only one out of twelve has shown any signs of growth. They are now back in the greenhouse, as I now have a new heater there. Will this help? Is there anything else I can do to bring them on? Thanks Janette

They do need warmth and moisture- are they new tubers this year?

Mid-April is only 3 weeks -just be patientimage

They can be quite slow to sprout, and moving them out of the warm house into the colder greenhouse won't help. Are you sure that you've planted them the right way up, with the dip uppermost?

Is their compost moist rather than wet, which could cause rotting?

Were they very dry when you bought them, e.g., from a supermarket, which might slow them down?

I agree with Geoff - it's not that long yet, give them a chance.

    Hi

i have had the same problem. This is my second year and only half of the tubers were successful. I planted them in April. I planted 14 in total and only half have been successful. 1 is about to flower soon however the others are still very small. Very disappointed as they are such beautiful flowers.  I

Mine aren't growing at all either. It's odd. they have sprouted and stopped completely for a month. I have lost two sets also - to rot in May, I imagine. A good year for the roses, not a good year for my begonias.

  • Think the bulbs which arnt  sprouting  are going soft  so I feel  they need to go  rather than wait for them to  sprout maybe I have over water them  to cause this 🤔

Hi everyone. I started 50 Begonias 40 Pendula & 10 Standard on Sun 9th April. Having never grown these before I was and still am apprehensive as to if I am doing the right thing. I started all of them of in trays in my Porch (Unheated) and back room upstairs. To date there are 6 which aren't being very responsive, 4 of them have buds/sprouts yet no increase in growth and 2 no sign of any growth at all, yet the corms are very firm and not soft, so not rotting.
    All advice welcome PLEASE.
Just to add, the ones which aren't showing growth or sprouting are in the same trays in which all the other corms are doing well.
