Ha ha Mike, you leant from last time image

I love the way you explain things with a story, it makes learning so much more interesting.  I don't even know when the Crimean war was though, yes that's terrible I know but history has never been a strong point - I hated my history teacher with a passion, nasty old man he was image

Anyway, potatoes I half knew about but wasn't aware that I could cut them up to make more 'seeds'.  I did know though that they grow from the shoots, occasionally I have found one at the back of my veg drawer that has been forgotten about LOL image

Thanks everyone, firstly for not laughing at me (well not so that I know anyway), secondly for your explanations and thirdly for reminding me how horrible some of my school lessons were image

I wouldn't laugh Tracey. I am much aware of all the things I don't know.

    When was the Crimean War?

Tracey's right Mike, you do a good story

Of course I believe you Doveimage

The Crimean War (pronounced // or //) (October 1853 – February 1856):7 was a conflict in which Russia lost to an alliance ofFranceBritain, the Ottoman Empire, and Sardinia. While neutral, theAustrian Empire also played a role in defeating the Russians.

You are so right Mike, there are many events/lessons that mankind hasn't learned from unfortunately.  I have of course heard of Florence Nightingale image

  • Thank you Mike, I never new about the potato eyes, but it sounds logical.  Also, thank to the person who said that by leaving root veg in the ground we should get a new crop the next year, but what about crop rotation?

I am aware of hoe to sow fruit from seed, as I succeeded with 1 out of 10 lemon pips some 30 years ago, that survived until 5 years ago, but alas no fruit

You don't get a new crop just by leaving them in the ground, you let them grow and flower then harvest the seeds for next years planting, somewhere else.
