New small border

Hi all,

spent the day yesterday taking the turf of a small corner off my front grass to make a border which I can then see from my kitchen window.  I've added sand and loads of organic matter to try and make the heavy clay soil a bit more receptive and am now ready to start planting.  However, a gazillion plants out there and only room for a dozen or so!  how can I possibly choose?  The house faces SE so gets sunshine all morning, it's very open as well.  Any suggestions ? I've already got one blue lupin in its 2nd year and going great guns and 2 pieris that hate it there.  

Looks a tiny space from the bedroom window doesn't it?
