Not JKW - pretty sure it's the fruiting body of Marestail/ horsetail.

I'd agree. The pic distorts when I enlarge - but that's how mare's tail looks when it first emerges.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thats a relief, thanks for the quick reply , it pulls out quite easily so should i just pull it all out or treat with weedkiller?

I'd use glyphosate - bruise the growth first as it contains silica and repels liquid - bruising it will help absorption.   Good luck image

I agree with all of above but would also add that you will need to keep hitting it with glyphosate every couple of weeks. The roots go down deep so pulling them up will not help. It will take  a lot of perserverence to beat this weed which has existed since the time of the dinosaurs!

I have it too Bob, posted a thread the other day.  When I first started trying to sort my veg patch after years of neglect (4 years ago), it was covered, everywhere and an absolute nightmare.

I don't want to use weed killer as it's in my veg patch, I just keeping pulling it up with one if those root weed remover tools, trying to get as much root as possible.  There is a lot less now and everyday I check the veg patch for more growth and pull it up straight away. Although I don't think I will be totally rid of (as per above comments) it is a lot less now and manageable.

    Hope this helps image
