clematis montana ('Fragrant Spring')
in Plants
Hi, I've just bought a clematis montana, which I want to train up some brick arches in my garden. Having dug where I planned to put it (about a foot away from the wall), I've found that there is concrete about a foot down. Can I plant on top of this, or will it need much deeper soil than that?
Thanks!

Plant much further out and angle the plant back towards the arch. This clematis is big and will need lots of water/energy to sustain it. Putting it on top of concrete the roots will have no where to go and there will be no water.
Plant your clematis deeply in a large hole with lots of compost/organic matter added, water well and mulch - keep it well watered until established and feed well.
