Best temp for both citrus and apples?
in Fruit & veg
I am still wondering what the best temp. range is for my garden. I definitely want it outside.
Apples are used to the cooler 50s,60s,and 70s in Ohio.
They can survive well in hot or cold places but the ideal for citrus is like extremely hot for apples.
Citrus are used to 80s, 90s, and 100s, as far as temp.
Citrus don't survive well in the cold despite the fact that they have bark and they are already acclimated to 40s when winter is there in hot places.
The ideal for apples is extremely cold for citrus.
What is the ideal temperature range if I am growing both of them because I have heard that it is not the temperatures of the middle of the USA in latitude that is ideal for growing both.

Mine is 50s in early spring to 100s and high 90s during the summer on average and the winter is like 20s at the coldest.
Of course I do have colder years where it is in the 40s in early spring and 80s and low 90s in the summer and teen numbers during winter and some hotter years where it is 60s in early spring and lots of 100+ temps in the summer.
What is surrounding me though is the colder temps so I do get teen numbers and negatives even sometimes during winter and some cool winds in the summer to cool things down to 80s even during an average year.
It's far more sensible and will be much more productive to grow the fruits that are happiest in the temperatures that you have, rather than try to grow things that will be permanently stressed by too high or too low temperatures and the wrong sort of rainfall.

I know but if I have a lot of plants growing well at hot temps than I don't want to have to go to the store just to get you know apples or something.
Caters - what are you planning for your garden? Somewhere nice to sit out with a few fruits and vegetables or a more regimented self-sufficiency drive? Knowing this'll help people understand what view point you're coming from.
I am planning a self sufficiency drive so that I get a bountiful harvest of everything I plant. I have heard that self sufficiency which includes planting at the minimum distance gives you more fruit and veggies than other methods.

Caters, I would consult a messageboard in the USA, as I'm sure you'll find advice there for your specific climate.
The UK climate is so governed by the sea and winds from specific directions it is difficult to help you.
