Weeping elm
weeping elm seedcases (I think they're usually sterile)
I wondered if that was a trick of the camera Dove. I've just been out and looked at the bark of the Ptelia and it's a good match. Maybe hostafan will find the other photo.
There was a nasty smell of aggro-chemicals ion my garden
We'll have to wait and see what the OP thinks or if the other photos turn up - leaves would be a help
Do you think they've sprayed nitrogen? It's a bit early for pesticide/fungicide - you've got wheat around you this year haven't you?
wheat and rape not quite next door this year Dove. The rape was being sprayed this morning, the wheat yesterday
weeping elm, yes. hostafan did say it had a weeping habit. Ptelia doesn't.
Back to my first suggestion then hostafan.
Looks like Elm to me - the in laws have some and those seed pod things get everywhere.

Probably a fungicide on the rape then - try not to breath if the wind's blowing in your direction
I'm often trying not to breathe around here

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
